Soak Up The Sun

Introduction   Phil 4:11-14

The status quo is what most people are use to. Life bring a style of redundancy and want people always dream of the what can be if I won the lotto, were famous, rich the list goes on. Crows song sings about one can overcome this dilemma in life. Simple words that bring an answer about overcoming desire to be something we are not.

1.      The Issue  (Phil 4:11-14)

We live in a world that teaches us want. (Expound fame, fortune and love)

(Matt 7:20-28) This is what the world has to offer is a lifestyle of pleasure that is built on bad ground

It is called being a sinner not having God in your life, I know the world says it's not necessary

  I.    We are told that school and hard work will satisfy you

ii.     You can be rich and successful as you labor to obtain these things

iii.    As we reach this then comes pleasing people thru charities and the night life, Hilton, Spears

iv.     This world preaches many Gospel that are not godly

v.      We have MTV and various shows that show their view of success

vi.     Entertainers now tell us what it is to be happy in life

We need to understand that this is building upon the sand as Jesus spoke

(Matt 7:16-21) What are the results of your lifestyle, your fruits

Anna Nichol - a millionaire but what good did it do? - sons death then her and a orphan

We have politicians Clinton, Kennedy, Nixon, Reagan both sides tragedy

The issue is what you are building and to whom?

2 forces in this world God and the devil, this is it, I know we want to ignore this but it's true

The devils plan is just ignore God and you'll be OK and we buy into this.

It is important what you believe because this will establish what effects your life will bring

Britney Spears said that everyone mocks and hates her, it's true because of her behavior

She went from a loved Musketeer to Pop Tart, she built on the sand and now in rehab

2.      The Failure (1 John 1:1-10)

We need to acknowledge God as our Lord and Savior

Just what is truth and what is a lie?

Man fails to recognize this issue of life and death, we look at the carnal instead of spiritual

Here is the problem we have been deceived and are on a wrong path (Matt 7:13-14)

What will you believe in today? Life with Jesus or without?

Ignoring the plan of salvation is the wrong path and you will pay for this here and eternity

Life without Jesus Christ will only bring you failure

We think that if we are not Satanist we will be OK, wrong

The devil just wants you to ignore Jesus and live your life to the best

Yes, he will try to destroy you but if he can't then he will lead you away from God

The whole issue is stay away danger, Savior at work

You will fill your life with the world of Jesus this is up to you

3.      Content  (1 Tim 6:4-12) & (vs.11)

Paul makes it interesting statement, I am content

  i.      This can only be brought be a surrender to Jesus Christ

The peace that God can give you will bless your life as you focus on it

   i.  Godliness with contentment  is great gain - a tree of life here and in eternity

ii.   The strength of sin is when we are searching for evil, the garden

iii.   Every tree you can eat of but not this one, not content

God tells humanity the same you can partake of the fruits but not sin

You will never be happy without Jesus Christ look at the world (Heb13:5-6)

Babies are not born wicked but grow up to become wicked

Anna Nichol was not born a stripper she became a stripper and addict

I'm not happy God with my life so we seek sin and are destroyed

(John 15:1-11)  God tells humanity the same you can partake of the fruits but not sin

Your fulfillment is dependant on God, he is the tree of life

Your works will be burned (expound)

You can not make it into heaven without a Savior

The bottom line be happy in Christ and soak up the sun

Phil 4:11-14
11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
14 Notwithstanding ye have well done, that ye did communicate with my affliction.

Matt 7:20-28
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:
KJV

Matt 7:16-21
16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
KJV

1 John 1-10
1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
2(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
KJV

Matt 7:13-14
13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
KJV

1 Tim 6:4-12
4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,
5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
KJV

11

Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

Heb 13:5-6
5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
KJV

John 15:1-11
15:1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.
10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
KJV

It's not having what you want
It's wanting what you've got

I'm gonna soak up the sun
I'm gonna tell everyone to lighten up
I'm gonna tell 'em that I've got no one to blame
For every time I feel lame, I'm lookin' up

I'm gonna soak up the sun
I'm gonna soak up the sun

I've got a crummy job
It don't pay near enough
To buy the things it'd take
To win me some of your love

Every time I turn around

Maybe somethin's wrong with you that makes you act the way you do
Maybe I am crazy too

I'm gonna soak up the sun
I'm gonna tell everyone to lighten up
I'm gonna tell 'em that I've got no one to blame
For every time I feel lame, I'm lookin' up

I'm gonna soak up the sun
